By now you have hopefully tried your walking meditation. The goal is to assist you in becoming aware of, and part of your surroundings, not simply be a form passing through, lost in your own thoughts. Even without a guided walking meditation, you can stay mindful when you are hiking, walking or biking by doing the following:
- Keep yourself engaged in each moment. If your mind strays, bring it back to the present moment, present environment.
- Consider yourself wholly integrated with your surroundings. Feel your breath as an exchange of energy between you and your environment. Feel your movements as a dance of energy between you and your surroundings.
- Notice! See what your awareness is drawn to in each moment: a sound, sensation, smell, feeling, image or even taste. Let your awareness stay linked to the input of your senses.
- Cultivate gratitude. We have been given such a gift to be alive on this beautiful planet. Find joy and gratitude in everything you experience.
