Life Lessons from Pulling Dandelions
I set out with my bin, determined to pull 100 dandelions. Simple enough. But as soon as I start, I’m overwhelmed by how many remain—as if I haven’t made a dent. So I keep going. And going. Before I know it, the bin is too heavy to carry back to the garage.
And there it is: a perfect metaphor for life.
1. Acknowledge what you have done.
It’s easy to focus on what’s left undone, but there’s so much power in pausing to appreciate the progress you have made. Let that be enough for today.
2. Don’t overdo.
Trying to “do it all” often leaves us burdened, sore, and struggling. Sometimes, what we need most is to stop, breathe, and trust that tomorrow will bring its own energy.
Pulling dandelions reminded me of a deeper truth about life. We often set goals with good intentions, but it’s easy to become disheartened by all that remains undone. Yet, there’s wisdom in pausing to recognize what has been accomplished and allowing it to be enough. Pushing beyond our limits can turn purposeful effort into unnecessary strain. The lesson? Stay present, celebrate progress, and trust that not everything needs to be finished today.
