Awareness, Discernment, and the Grace of Action
This excerpt from Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility spoke to me recently:
“It is not what we think or feel that makes us who we are. It is what we do. Or fail to do.”
If you’re like me, there are plenty of thoughts, judgments, and reactions that move through your awareness that you’re not particularly aligned with—or even proud of. Sometimes you might wonder why certain thoughts are passing through your mind when you so clearly disagree with them. Or maybe you feel that if you were truly “zen,” all your thoughts and emotions would be charitable, loving, and peaceful.
Well… not so much!
Your energetic self—your higher self—radiates perfect clarity, love, and wisdom. So when you feel that churn of disconnect, it’s actually a good thing. It means you are witnessing your thoughts and emotions rather than identifying with them. You’re realizing: this is not me.
This is where discernment comes in. We choose how to respond, how to act. And that is the soul’s journey: the ongoing invitation to see clearly and respond from a place of love.
Remember, we are here to deeply experience everything—and to be deeply human. Celebrate that, while also remembering and drawing upon the divine essence that you are.
